This Haunted Heaven

Ten Strange Stories

by

Reggie Oliver

with illustrations by the author

Ten strange stories from a modern master story-teller, Reggie Oliver’s impressive tales range from an archaeological dig on an island in the Mediterranean, to seventeenth century Milan. With a wide range of eminently authentic characters, Oliver insinuates strangeness into the lives of his unwary protagonists and the results vary from a profound chill to outright horror.

Contains:

‘This Haunted Heaven’, ‘Grey Glass’, ‘The Ninth Curtain’, ‘Limed Souls’, ‘From the Man-Seat’, ‘South Riding’, ‘Fell Creatures’, ‘Behind You!’, ‘The Cardinal’s Ring’, ‘Chaos Regained’.

As Publishers Weekly wrote of a previous collection by Reggie Oliver, his work is for, ‘Readers who like their horrors subtle but unsettling.’

REGGIE OLIVER is an actor, director, playwright, illustrator and award-winning author of fiction. His published work includes six plays, three novels, an illustrated children’s book, eight volumes of short stories, including Mrs Midnight (2011 winner of Children of the Night Award for best work of supernatural fiction), and the biography of Stella Gibbons, Out of the Woodshed (Bloomsbury 1998). His stories have appeared in over one hundred anthologies and four ‘selected’ editions have been published. Besides his own work his illustrations have graced the fiction of Susan Hill, Robert Shearman and Anna Taborska.

Reviews:

"Oliver’s smooth, eminently readable, and always intriguing prose is marked by the assured touch of a seasoned master." Rue Morgue, #222

"Dark Fiction at its Best" - Mario Guslandi, Blackgate.com

"What I love the most about his work is that he is not only a master of atmosphere, but also the way in which he brings together past and present,  creating a lingering sense of menace and danger.  As I usually find while reading his work, his writing is so good that while in the middle of one of these stories, the house could have caught fire and I would have waited to do anything about it until I finished reading." Nancy Oakes, Oddly Weird Fiction
